Travel Opportunities

Summer Mission to Israel

Israel scene FPOEvery summer the National Young Leadership Mission to Israel gives YLD participants the unique opportunity to tour, learn and discover Israel with young professionals from Chicago and around the country. Missions allow participants a unique opportunity to get to know one another, learn about Israeli communities and see first hand the work the Jewish United Fund (JUF) does in Israel.

Join us on a summer mission and see history come alive through exhibits, walks through ancient tunnels, and visits to extraordinary places. Spend time in Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir (Chicago’s partner city), dine on great food and enjoy five-star accommodations. Mission activities include: hiking Masada, floating in the Dead Sea, visiting the Western Wall and the Old City of Jerusalem, Yad Vashem (the National Holocaust Memorial Museum) and so much more.  This is also a great opportunity to meet and bond with other young professionals from Chicago. Whether you have visited Israel before or not, this is an experience you will remember forever! See photos from past YLD missions.

National Conferences

Every year, YLD participates in the United Jewish Communities' (UJC) National Leadership Conferences. These conferences bring together hundreds of young adults from across the country to learn about relevant issues affecting the Jewish community.

In March 2009, YLD participants attended the conference in New Orleans, which was comprised of over 550 participants nationally.  Conference attendees learned about the concept of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) while participating in a hands-on service project, restoring Archbishop Hannan High School in St. Bernard Parish, which was badly damaged by hurricane Katrina.   Conference highlights also included a tour of New Orleans with local Jewish community residents, dynamic speakers and opportunities to make lifelong connections.
