Fall LEADS: Register by this Thursday!

Sign up for one of YLD’s most successful programs!

  • Learn about YLD and how you can become more involved.
  • Expand your knowledge of issues facing the Jewish community locally and abroad.
  • Augment your understanding of JUF’s allocation process to its beneficiaries.
  • Discuss and debate contemporary Jewish topics with your peers.
  • Socialize with other young adults your age and make new friends.

The LEADS program offers an introductory exploration of the Jewish community and contemporary issues. Groups will be formed in several areas of the city and separated by age first, then location (Gold Coast, Lakeview, and Lincoln Park).

LEADS is a two-month series that will begin this September. Dates: Tuesday, September 29 - Thursday, October 8 - Friday, October 16 - Sunday, October 25 - Wednesday, November 4 - Tuesday, November 10 - Tuesday, November 17 - Monday, November 23. Sessions typically begin at 7:30 p.m., though there will be some variance. Following most of the sessions, groups will meet all together at a bar for a happy hour. The cost of the program is $75.

YLD's Big Event: Sunday, November 15

SAVE THE DATE forthe biggest YLD event of the year featuring an evening with Andy Samberg, internationally acclaimed comedian and star of Saturday Night Live! This exciting event will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Swissotel (323 East Wacker Drive).

The cost to attend is $75 per person, including hors d'oevures, open bar, dessert reception and after-party. In addition, all participants are required to make a donation to the 2010 JUF Annual Campaign. The minimum requirement is a match or increase to your previous JUF gift. If you have not given to JUF in the past, you are required to make a gift. Attendance at the event signifies your consent. Your donation can be paid in installments through December 2010.

Become a table host to secure group seating with your friends at the event! Table hosts will be asked to fill a table of 10 (including yourself) by having your friends register online. You will be responsible for submitting your table guest list to YLD by November 2. If you would like to be a table host, please contact the YLD office. All other seating will be general admission.

There will be a Ben-Gurion Society (BGS) VIP Reception at 5:00 p.m. to acknowledge YLD donors who contribute $1,000 or more to the 2010 JUF Annual Campaign. This intimate gathering will provide an opportunity to meet Andy Samberg in person!

Volunteer at JUF's Uptown Cafe: Tuesday, September 29

The JUF Uptown Cafe is coordinated by the Dina and Eli EZRA Multi-Service Center under the auspices of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago. This cafe, which is a kosher, anti-hunger program, provides 4 meals per week to people who are hungry while nourishing their spirits. Volunteers are needed to serve meals in a restaurant-style soup kitchen.

Merkaz Ivrit: Chicago's Largest and Most Popular Ulpan

Come learn Hebrew with adults just like you - learn to ask questions in a store in Tel Aviv, order a meal in Jerusalem, recognize every letter in the Hebrew alphabet and more. Classes are offered at four convenient locations throughout the metropolitan area, there are day and evening schedules and classes are taught by teachers who love working with adult learners. Classes are held for learners at every level – beginner to advanced. The program is called HEBREW ULPAN and it’s sponsored by CFJE, a support foundation of the JF/JUF. Classes start in October and run weekly through May (with breaks for the holidays). $50 discount to all YLD members!
