Are you interested in volunteering with your peers around Chicago on a regular basis?

If so, we are now accepting applications for YLD’s ongoing volunteer program, Mensches in Motion. This six-session program will give you the opportunity to volunteer at a variety of JUF supported agencies and meet other young adults in the Chicago community! The volunteer schedule is:

•Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6:00pm: Jewish Child and Family Services at JUF
•Monday, Jan. 30 OR Monday, Feb. 6 at 5:30pm: JUF Uptown Café
•Monday, Feb. 13 at 6:30pm: House of Good Shepherd

•Monday, March 13 at 6:30pm: The ARK

YLD Co-Ed Dodgeball League

Join us for YLD’s new Co-Ed Dodgeball League! This league is about playing a sport AND supporting a great cause, the Jewish United Fund. The games will be played on Wednesdays starting at 6:30 pm on January 25th at Hawthorne Academy (3319 N. Clifton Ave.). After the games, teams can walk over to our sponsor bar, Schoolyard Tavern (3258 N Southport St.), for drinks, socializing and fun!

You may sign up as an individual or a team ($70 per player if you have made a minimum $25 donation to JUF’s 2017 Annual Campaign and $95 for those who have yet not made this minimum $25 donation). Teams must have a minimum of 8 players and 3 females. If you are interested in organizing a team, please email yld@juf.org. Price includes eight games. Parking is readily available.

YLD Visits the Art Institute of Chicago

Spring LEADS 2017

The Spring LEADS 2017 program is a great way to meet new people in Chicago and offers an introductory exploration of the Jewish community in a fun, relaxed social setting. The program dates are March 22, March 28, April 3, April 20, April 25, May 5, May 10, and May 16. Groups will be separated by age and take place in several areas of the city. LEADS participants will join together at a bar event following most sessions. There will be an LGBTQ group. If you are interested in participating in the LGBTQ group, please check the box indicated below.

The cost to participate is $50, which includes 8 sessions, food, speakers and all program supplies. In addition to the program fee participants will also be asked to make a meaningful gift to the 2017 JUF Annual Campaign (minimum $36) and will have the opportunity to do so during the course of the program.

Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin

A benefit for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Holocaust Community Services program. The Chicago premiere of this powerful multi-media production brings to life the story of Maestro Raphael Schächter and his choir of 150 fellow inmates of Terezin, who learned and performed Verdi’s Requiem Mass. Created and conducted by Maestro Murry Sidlin, it features a complete performance of Verdi’s Requiem, combined with on-stage drama, video interviews and film from the era. This performance features the Chicago Philharmonic, the Chicago Vocal Artists Ensemble, Jeremy Piven and Tovah Feldshuh. The event is chaired by Virginia & Norman Bobins and Karyn & Bill Silverstein. All production costs have been underwritten by the Crown Family and Pritzker Family Philanthropic Fund. All other gifts and proceeds will directly support Holocaust Community Services.
