Fall Insights

“Gourmet, Quick & Easy Meals”

Join us for a night of food and fun as Laura Frankel, Executive Chef and Head of Food Services at the Wolfgang Puck Kosher Catering at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, shares her culinary wisdom with a food demonstration and tasting of mouth-watering recipes for quick and easy gourmet meals. Also taste fabulous wines with Whole Foods' own sommelier!

Cost is $25 per person, includes light refreshments and cooking demo samples.

Feel free to come early to explore this amazing new store and grab a drink or dinner at one of the bars or food stations. Parking is available in the Whole Foods Market lot.

JUF Book Buddies

Looking for something fun (and free!) to do with your family on the weekend?

Join us once a month for JUF Book Buddies! The wildly popular JUF Book Buddies program will now have a home in the City – Borders Books at 755 W. North Avenue! JUF Book Buddies is an exciting program for families with children ages 0-5. Join us for an hour of stories, songs, crafts and fun. It’s a great way to learn about the Jewish holidays and spend time with other families! All programs take place on Sunday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 am at Borders Books at 755 W. North Avenue on the following dates:

  • Sunday, October 18 - Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)
  • Sunday, November 15 - Shabbat
  • Sunday, December 13 - Hanukkah
  • Sunday, January 17 - Tu B'shevat (celebrating the new year for trees)
  • Sunday, February 21 - Purim
  • Sunday, March 21 - Passover 13
  • Sunday, April 18 - Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day)

The Young Women’s City Council of the Women’s Division of the Jewish United Fund invites you to attend our:

With Special Guest Farideh Goldin, author of Wedding Song: Memoirs of an Iranian Jewish Woman.

Please join us for wine and light appetizers before the program. This event celebrates women who make a minimum donation of $750 or more to the 2010 Jewish United Fund-Israel Emergency Fund.

Couvert - $45. Light refreshments will be served.

We will be collecting new non-perishable food items and paper goods the evening of the event to help stock the food pantries at the EZRA Multi-Service Center and The ARK.

The estimated value of the program is $45 which is not tax-deductible.

Volunteer: Mitzvah Opportunities

In conjunction with JUF’s Tikkun Olam Network (TOV), the Young Women’s City (YWC) Council will coordinate special volunteer opportunities for groups of women throughout the year. Locations will be announced upon receipt of reservations. Limited spaces are available for each program. Please contact Elissa at YWCcouncil@juf.org for more information or to RSVP.

ARK Hanukkah Gift Wishes Drop Off Event

  • 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Family friendly

YWC participants will sign up through The ARK to purchase Hanukkah gifts for clients through the Gift Wishes program. Then, come to Little Threads in Lakeview to drop off your Hanukkah gifts – we’ll socialize, eat and create holiday cards to send to American Soldiers fighting overseas. YWC will then take all of the gifts to The ARK, saving you the trip! Please note: Forms to participate are due to the ARK by October 30!

Serve dinner at the JUF Uptown Cafe

The JUF Uptown Cafe is Chicago’s first kosher anti-hunger program for the needy. In addition to providing hot meals in a restaurant-style setting, the JUF Uptown Cafe program brings dignity and hope to people in need. YWC volunteers will set tables, serve food and converse with guests.
