Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin

A benefit for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Holocaust Community Services program. The Chicago premiere of this powerful multi-media production brings to life the story of Maestro Raphael Schächter and his choir of 150 fellow inmates of Terezin, who learned and performed Verdi’s Requiem Mass. Created and conducted by Maestro Murry Sidlin, it features a complete performance of Verdi’s Requiem, combined with on-stage drama, video interviews and film from the era. This performance features the Chicago Philharmonic, the Chicago Vocal Artists Ensemble, Jeremy Piven and Tovah Feldshuh. The event is chaired by Virginia & Norman Bobins and Karyn & Bill Silverstein. All production costs have been underwritten by the Crown Family and Pritzker Family Philanthropic Fund. All other gifts and proceeds will directly support Holocaust Community Services.
