Parent Workshops

Parenting is increasingly complicated in the age of social media. Through Springboard’s focus on whole teen health we are providing a series of workshops to explore some of the challenges modern parents face and to provide meaningful opportunities to come together to discuss these challenges as a community.

Parenting in the Age of Social Media: Jewish Camp and the Value of a Screen-Free Summer

Screens are everywhere these days, and always seem to be in front of our children's eyes. Beyond the ubiquitous games and videos, children are exposed to social media at younger and younger ages. As new research emerges on the impact of social media on the developing brain, many parents are asking, "How can I balance the importance and hazards of technology for my child, and how can I help my child develop friendships, skills, knowledge and curiosity beyond the screen?"

In this interactive session, a panel of experts will help parents find answers to their questions and highlight one of the best tools the Jewish community has to offer children and families: Jewish camps and a summer away from screens. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to speak with staff from several Midwest Jewish overnight camps. Parents of children ages 8-18 and Chicago area Jewish Youth Professionals are invited to attend this free event.

Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will be able to win copies of some of the panelists' favorite parenting books.

Parents of Gen Z (tweens through college) and Chicago area Jewish Youth Professionals are invited to attend this free event.
