As you may already know, both President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu will be speaking at next week’s General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America (formerly UJC) in Washington, D.C. President Obama is speaking Tuesday, November 10, shortly before our own monthly luncheon meeting. That GA session begins at 10 AM CST and will be streamed live at: JewishFederations.org/ga. For those attending the JCRC meeting and available earlier, a large screen showing of the president’s address will be aired in the JCRC meeting room. After that program we will start the regular JCRC meeting at the usual times: lunch at 11:45am and the business agenda starting at 12:15pm. Meanwhile, the session when Israeli Prime Minister Benjaimin Netanyahu addresses the GA begins at 10 AM CST on Monday, November 9 and will be streamed live at the same website JewishFederations.org/ga. Reminder, the JCRC meeting itself will focus on state ethics reform and will feature former ABC 7 TV political reporter Andy Shaw, now the Executive Director of the Better Government Association, who will address that topic and his organization's goals and activities in that arena. Also on the agenda, though overall Chicago crime and violent crime rates are at their lowest level in decades, violent crime continues to plague Chicago Public Schools. Sean Harden, with whom JCRC has worked in his previous roles at the Mayor's Office of Interfaith Affairs and at the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, and is now Deputy Chief of Community Relations for Chicago Public Schools, will brief us on the city's Public Schools Safety and Security Initiative. Please RSVP to jcrc1@juf.org or 312-357-4770.
