I am pleased to announce that Lee Miller has agreed to serve as the new JCRC Chair, one of the community's most important and challenging volunteer positions. A JUF board member for several years, Lee has served as chairman of our Lawyers’ Division and has the distinction of already being honored by no less than four JCRC constituent organizations. Lee follows in the footsteps of many distinguished JCRC chairs, most immediately Midge Perlman Shafton, who served so well and achieved so much during her distinguished two-year term. Midge will continue to serve on the Executive Committee of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) and has served for several years as Chair of the UJC/JCPA's Israel Advocacy Initiative. I am pleased that Midge has committed to remaining active in JCRC as well as her many other communal leadership roles. JCRC's 2009/2010 program year begins Tuesday, September 29th when we will thank and salute Midge and hear some of Lee's priority community relations goals for the coming years. We will also meet Lee's new team of commission chairs. In addition, the September 29th meeting will feature updates on major developments that unfolded this summer. In particular JCRC will unveil its final report on the State of Illinois’ divesting its portfolio of stocks invested in Iran’s energy sector. JCRC drafted the legislation and worked closely with sponsors Senator Jeff Schoenberg and Representative Lou Lang on its implementation. The law required that the portfolio be divested as of July 11, 2009 and we are very pleased with the final result, and trust that you will too and will appreciate this special report. Please RSVP to jcrc1@juf.org. As a reminder, it expedites your path through security when you RSVP in advance and helps to cut down on our meeting costs when we are able to order the appropriate number of meals. RSVP Today! » |
