 | | The Hillels of Illinois Benefit 2009 Thursday, June 25, 2009
Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Chicago
720 S. Michigan Avenue Funds raised through the Benefit help ensure that over 15,000 Jewish students throughout Illinois have people to turn to on campus who can help them explore and define a Jewish identity that is meaningful to them and that inspires them to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life. Hillels throughout Illinois serve as a home away from home for our students, and they serve as an invaluable Jewish voice on their respective campuses, supporting, protecting, defending, and illuminating our rich and varied heritage. Dana Gordon and Frances H. Krasnow are chairing this year’s Benefit. Community members can join with them in supporting Jewish campus life by purchasing seats for the dinner and/or buying ads in the program. Register online, send in your RSVP card, or call 312-673-2354. This year’s event will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. with a Dinner Reception and a silent auction. Guests can fill their plates from food stations, select a beverage from the open bar, and then go sit at their tables or mix and mingle. By 7:15 all guests will be seated for the show, which will begin with a few remarks from students, followed by the very smart, the very funny, and the very interactive antics of Chicago’s own ComedySportz Improv Group from 7:30 – 8:30. The evening will conclude with a dessert reception and the closing of the silent auction. |

Kotzin, who has been working with campus activists and Hillel to address anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiments and activities. Read more » |
Combating anti-Israel sentiment on campus can be a frustrating, but gratifying experience. As a reaction to growing anti-Israel sentiment on many Chicago-area campuses, Jewish students and faculty are re-asserting their support for Israel. With the support of Hillel and Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) professionals, students are initiating Israel-related programming that is not just responsive, but proactive. Initiatives on and off campus are also providing students, both Jewish and non-Jewish, with opportunities to learn more about Israel.
