Grant Writing
CJE SeniorLife / Grants Department (Rogers Park)
CJE SeniorLife serves 17,000 older adults and caregivers throughout the Chicagoland area each year. The Grants Department is responsible for researching private and public funding sources for CJE, as well as writing, editing and submitting proposals and reports to these funders. During this process, the Grants Department staff members work closely with the directors and managers of CJE’s programs and services. The Grants Department also educates CJE staff members about what makes grant proposals competitive.
The intern will:
- Research funding sources and help assess whether or not they are a good match for CJE programs
- Learn how to write a competitive grant application
- Work directly with a service area’s personnel to develop a proposal
- Gain exposure to all of CJE”s programs and services
- Develop an understanding of how a grants department fits into the organizational structure of a nonprofit
- Attend American Association of Grant Writing Professionals (AAGP) meetings/events when possible
Jewish Federation / Grants Department (30 S. Wells St., Chicago)
This internship offers an excellent introduction to Jewish communal service and the organized Jewish community in Chicago. Intern(s) will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment--working on special grants and projects that affect the quality of life of individuals in our community. Assignments are geared towards researching, writing and interfacing with affiliate agencies of the Jewish Federation. Intern(s) will be exposed to foundation research and proposal writing, as well as program planning and management. Intern(s) must have significant skill in MS Office Suite of Products and the Internet, strong writing and communication skills, the ability to juggle multiple tasks, and the ability to work independently. Writing sample requested.
This placement is a half-time position.

This internship offers an excellent introduction to Jewish communal service and the organized Jewish community in Chicago. Intern(s) will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment -- working on special grants and projects that affect the quality of life of individuals in our community. Intern(s) will have special assignments with the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders ( www.jewishgeneticscenter.org) as well as the Grants Department. Assignments are geared towards researching, writing and interfacing with affiliate agencies of the Jewish Federation. Interns will be exposed to foundation research and proposal writing, as well as program planning and management. Intern(s) must have significant skill in MS Office Suite of Products and the Internet, strong writing skills, the ability to juggle multiple tasks, and the ability to work independently.
